The Cruise Angle iCMT application transforms your iPad, iPod, or iPhone into a functional angle gauge designed for selecting sample trees in timber cruising operations. When applying the point sampling method for timber inventories, the forester first determines an appropriate Basal Area Factor (BAF) for the stand, then utilizes the corresponding angle gauge for sample tree selection. During sampling, trees are visually assessed through the gauge opening—any tree that fully fills the opening qualifies as a sample tree. From this count, the basal area per acre can be calculated. Rather than carrying multiple physical angle gauges, users can leverage the Cruise Angle iCMT app on their iOS devices to streamline this process.

The app offers several key features suitable for professional forestry work:

<li>Conversion tools between horizontal and slope distances.</li>
<li>Distance measurement directly on the integrated map view.</li>
<li>Area measurement functions on the map interface.</li>
</ul>

The included Node tool facilitates precise delineation by allowing users to place nodes along lines or boundaries, providing accurate measurement data. Additional nodes can be added to represent GPS locations; however, users should be aware that GPS accuracy depends on hardware capabilities. Continuous GPS use in the background may impact device battery life, but toggling GPS on or off is straightforward within the app. An integrated help documentation is available to assist users in maximizing functionality.
