When applying the point sampling method for timber inventories, the forester first determines an appropriate Basal Area Factor (BAF) for the stand, then utilizes the corresponding angle gauge for sample tree selection. During sampling, trees are visually assessed through the gauge opening—any tree that fully fills the opening qualifies as a sample tree. From this count, the basal area per acre can be calculated. Rather than carrying multiple physical angle gauges, users can leverage the Cruise Angle iCMT app on their iOS devices to streamline this process.
